Do you Have Difficulty Making/Meeting Friends at our Age?

Hello all,

I am 34 and my family and I just moved back to my hometown.

Although my old friends and I have grown apart, I was hoping to make new connections and friendships.

However this has proven difficult! Full time (plus) work and getting our family and household settled here occupies the majority of my time.

In my limited free time, I am exhausted and just want to finally read and rest.

I realize this cycle has left me isolated, but limited funds, time and energy leaves me at a stalemate.

Anyone else in this situation?

I have a hard time too. I go to church so I have friends there and try to hangout with them during the week. They do a playgroup at a playground every week but it's right when my baby naps so we can't go. It seems like everyone is busy or we can't because our babies have different nap schedules. Taking care of the house and kids leaves me tired and I don't want to go out. I've thought about joining a book club. I just can't right now I have a class on Thursdays and that is when the club is.

It can be really hard to make new friends! Sometimes it feels a little bit like dating – hoping the other person is interested and maybe feeling a little bit nervous that you are coming on too strong. Actually just met somebody last night – all of my coworkers who were supposed to be sitting at my table at a wedding got food poisoning at the same time and didn't make it to the wedding last minute.So my husband and I were at a table by ourselves. We befriended some other people who also didn't know anyone else the wedding and they ended up sitting with us.

Same problem here. I have no kids, though. Still, it is tough to find time with friends, or making new ones.

I'm 34 and moved to Wisconsin five years ago and only met a handful of people through my previous place of employment. My mom moved from our hometown of New Jersey to Virginia and all my siblings eventually followed suit, but I took a different route. I don't regret the move as I've grown to appreciate suburbia over the concrete jungle but aside from my SO and kids I do find myself bored and wanting to have girlfriends I can call on the phone or hangout with. Then reality kicks in, I have trust issues and past experiences unfortunately have taught me to keep to myself. I no longer try hard for it, if it's meant it shall be. I think my lesson is learning to be my own bestfriend first. Who knows lol

Yes you're not alone. I moved to a new state 3 years ago and everything is different here. Working full-time while raising a 20mo old makes it impossible. Then when I do meet people, it's through a mom group. Personalities just feel radically different and I feel like I have to work really hard to stay in contact. I never had problems making friends back home in CA, but MN seems like a different animal. My husband and I are actually moving back next year.
