can you eat deli meat while pregnant?

Okay ladies my cousin is kind of weird when it comes to telling me what I can and can't eat during my pregnancy when she herself has never been pregnant. Anyways she said I shouldn't eat deli meat because it's bad for me? I've looked it up and it says it's just a myth and it's fine and doctors say it's fine. But have any of you ladies been told not to eat it???

Most rules are due to food borne illnesses. Deli meat if not kept properly can make you sick and being pregnant makes you more vulnerable to that stuff. I go with the rule of don't go anywhere sketchy. I still eat it.

I've eaten many many cold cut sandwiches this pregnancy. Currently 35 weeks and I'm just fine. Lol. My OB said it's perfectly fine but that if I myself felt safer about it, that heating it up would kill off any sort of bad germs that might be on it. As long as you're not letting the meat sit out for too long when making a sandwich (too long meaning more than like 15 minutes) then I wouldn't worry.

It's not a myth. Where did you get that incorrect info from.
There's a risk of contracting Listeria with several different foods including cold cuts. Also cold cuts just aren't healthy to begin with.

The issue with foods is illnesses that are associated with raw or undercooked food. Be smart, don't eat anything that's questionable. Really you should always be cautious of what you're eating when it comes to the fear of food illnesses, pregnant or not, so just be wise about it.
