Pool or no pool?

My boyfriend and I just recently purchased and moved into a new home. It's on 1.5 acres of land so we have quite a bit of room. He desperately wants to put an in ground pool in the backyard, but I'm not too keen. I'd love to have it for my daughter to have fun in during the summers, but the upkeep seems hassling. I am also very paranoid of something happening to my daughter. Obviously I will watch her, but you never know with kids sometimes. I was reading into my town ship's regulations on having pools on your property, and a fence is required. It seems so expensive and I'm not 100% for it yet. Also it will just be such a long project. Any experiences or recommendations?

I'd probably get an above ground one. That way the baby can't get in it unless someone is there with her. Might not be as pleasing to look at, but they're way cheaper, you don't have to have a fence, and if you ever decided you didn't want a pool anymore it's easier to get rid of. We've had an above ground pool at my mom and dads for as long as I can remember, and it's not too bad to maintain. You have to drain the water out to under the skimmer in the pool and empty the water/store the filter when it comes to winter, and in the summer you mostly just need to vacuum it and add cholrine. My two year old loves being in it.

I live in Southern California where pools are VERYYYYY common.  I specifically picked a place without one due to the maintenance and hassle.  Just filling the pool is expensive 😓

There are two ways to compromise. An above ground pool, which isn't as much of a hassle as an in-ground, but still a hassle, and much less expensive. Or a saltwater pool, which will be expensive, but I have always found that saltwater pools are easier to maintain and much healthier for your skin than pools with all the coloring and other chemicals. I grew up with both and always preferred saltwater.

A fence woul definitely be necessary. Honestly if your man really wants to have a pool you can tell him that you'll only agree if he will be responsible for cleaning it, brushing it, making sure thr chemicals are right, using the net to fish out dead animals and bugs, and nasically just everything that comes with a pool. It'll need (at least) weekly cleaning with a brush for the algae that will grow. If you don't clean it and test the chemicals in the water often then the water and the walls can literally turn green and be unsafe to swim in. I went on so many trips to our local pool atore with my dad to get different chemicals (including acid) that e had to pour into the water to balance the ph levels. We also had to get a vacuum guy or the bottom of the pool that would go around and suck up all the stuff that was on the bottom. If you do end up getting a pool make sure you have steps that allow yoyr saughter to hang out on them - like a tiny step for the first step into the water, then the next step is a very big flat piece that you van walk around on and fit several people on (it'll give you a shallow place to sit - the middle of this second step is a good place for an umbrella hole in the pool so that you can sit there in the water wirh shade if the sun is too strong), and then make a third step thqt is much less long that leads to a shallow end. As yout little one grows exploration from the shallow watet on the steps to the shallow end of the pool WILL take a while, and will be the biggest adventure. Make sure baby knows the deep end is off limits unless you're holding her and you should be good. You might want to consider an in-grpund Jacuzzi that's a bit elevated above the pool p ypu can have waterfalls come from the jacussi and pour into the pool 😊

Look into getting a natural pool. It uses plants and water flow to filter the water so it's zero maintenance. Plus they look so much nicer.

Having to have a fence for a inground pool isvery common.  If you get a pool you really want a fence. Where do you live. I'm in Michigan so yes a pool would be nice I just see spenti g the money on it. My yard is very small through so that also does not help me. I would do a pool if I had a big yard and the money.

I have an in ground pool in AZ. It's really NOT a hassle and 100% worth the short time we spend on maintenance. 
We add some water every week and the city water is great and doesn't need anything added to it, we just fill the chlorine dispenser every couple weeks, brush the sides once a week, run the filter 3hrs a day (our pool is a smaller play pool). 
We enjoy it every day in the summer! 
I would not have a house without a pool at this stage of my life. 
We also had a safety net installed to protect our children from drowning.

Well you're gonna easily drop about $20,000 for an in ground pool and yes there is a lot of maintenance. Shock, chlorine tabs, scrubbing, vacuuming, depending on the filter you'll need D.E., acid for balancing the Ph level.

This is what we are thinking. Above ground with deck. You can control the costs more with this. Small deck and as much pool as you want

We grew up with a pool and none of us ever drowned. Now that I have my own child I'm terrified of it so I totally get where you're coming from. My parents put a fence around ours and a lock on the gate. We weren't at the pool unless and adult was with us.
