My toddler is all over the place in public. Even when I hold his hand. We're planning a trip to San Francisco and I'm thinking about buying a leash/harness for him. Is that weird?

How about something like this? I know lots of toddlers who can't stand holding hands! I personally like these more than the backpack leash! It's more like holding handswithout the uncomfortable hand in hand contact!

I think kids leashes are great. Better your kid be safe and then you don't have to deal with attitude.

I have a Spectrum kid and a runner. Both wore backpack leashes when we went anywhere! People would side eye me but I had zero issues with it. My autistic kiddo can't handle touch and with my runner it was impossible to hold her and help the ASD kiddo too. So they got to pick the "pack packs" they wanted and wore them everywhere! 
No shame in keeping that baby safe Mama!

Best parenting technique I heard was:
Give the child a choice.
Example:

"Alright sweetie, you could keep running around and not listening to Mommy, and it'll make Mommy very upset and make her want to carry you/restrain(whichever way you usually handle it that he mustn't like), OR you can listen now and as soon as we get to the park you can run around again/(Insert favorable situation to the child if realistic, like a reward for good behaviour)."

The harness saved my life as a kid. People think it's cruel but it's really not if used properly. It's not meant to drag a child or yank them.

If get one it would be easier on him and you if you had that instead of pulling on his arm I know my son was all over the place to holding his hand felt like I was ripping his arm off sometimes lol
