Does Breastfeeding Hurt?!

I've heard breastfeeding hurts so badly! Does anyone have any tips to help with the pain? I'm pregnant now and plan to breastfeed and I will deal with the pain regardless! But would love some tips :)

If the latch is good, it shouldn't be bad. I never experienced a huge amount of pain. I'm still nursing my third who is 16 months. Earth Mama Nipple butter is my favorite and necessary early in the breastfeeding relationship.

The more you stress about nursing, the harder it is. The more relaxed you are, the easier it is. Baby senses what you feel. My second and third born boys nursed and latched immediately without trouble. That's because I was confident and calm and didn't stress about it.

Make sure your hospital has LCs on staff. Whatever pediatrician you have should not only be breastfeeding friendly, but an LC on staff there is amazing! They know how differently breastfed babies can grow and can help so much. You'll be fine

The first couple weeks can be until your nipples adjust, they get sore and raw. But honestly it was never very painful for me. My son is almost 10 months and we're still going strong! I would definitely say to invest in some nipple balm though, that helped me quite a bit.

The first week or two was honestly a bit painful, which I wasnt expecting. When I was in the hospital everyone said his latch was good so I'm assuming it was just my nipples adjusting. Definitely get nipple cream (LIFESAVER), the hospital gave me some and I only needed it the first couple weeks. We are great now!

The first little bit is definitely quite uncomfortable. It takes time for you and baby to get the perfect latch and position that works best for you. Have lots of lanolin cream on hand and use it all the time - it really does help! Honestly I found the thing that helped the most was not wearing a bra or top whenever possible to avoid any extra chaffing on the already sore nipples. If you have access to a breastfeeding clinic or lactation consultant I also highly suggest that. If you're really sore these are also wonderful!

One you both get comfortable it's really the best feeling in my experience and so easy for night time feedings! Good luck!

It doesn't hurt if you're doing it right. If it hurts it usually means the baby's latch is wrong in some way. The lactation consultant at the hospital should help you! Good luck! I love breastfeeding.

Yes! The first week is terrible but if you can get through the first week the pain goes away. Your nipples can crack and bleed so invest in nipple cream. People will say it only hurts if they aren't latched properly. I experienced this to be untrue. I got through the first week twice and nursed both my boys until 8 months old. It is worth it!!!

I was prepared for the whole hurting bit, bought nipple cream, shields, pads, hand pump, the lot! 
11 weeks down the line, I have never needed any of it. Not even a nipple cream. Never hurt, never uncomfortable. It's only a bit uncomfortable when I get a heavy let down around her growth spurts when production increases. But it only lasts for a few seconds. 
At least for one nap a day she is comfort sucking for an hour, and no pain at all. Even makes you a bit sleepy. 
Prepare for the worst, hope for the best I guess! But it really isn't rocket science! Just don't let anyone disrupt baby's attempts to latch early on by bottle feeding, spoon feeding or pacifier. Yes it's natural for them to suck at boobs, but they still need to learn. And if they get an easier way of getting food, they might not be bothered latching. As it's much harder work!

Get a latching consultant! Lol I couldn't find out how to get my son to latch properly and i had to quit because my ductsgot blocked
