Should "Grandma showers" be a thing?

No it's not grandmas taking a shower with their grandkids
No it's not "grandma showers" like giving an actual damn shower
No it's not where the grandma throws the baby shower

Not it's not just a party to celebrate becoming a grandma it is were friends throw a baby shower! They buy her gifts to have at her house for the baby I seen it somewhere so I thought I'd ask you guys!!

If her friends want to throw her a party and give her some things for the baby then why not? If the grandmother is throwing this party for herself then that'd be selfish and unnecessary. But if her friends do something for her becoming a grandparent then why is it a problem? They're not taking away from the baby or the mother at all.

The purpose of a shower is to "shower" the couple with gifts. It gives families and friends an opportunity to provide support and love for the new parents. It's about celebrating the parents and new baby. What does grandma need presents for?

It just comes across rude and obnoxious. Why would you want to take away from your child having a child and them celebrating this part of their lives? Like as a grandparent, when you were becoming a parent, how would that have made you feel?  I get not everyone gets a shower, and circumstances are different and so on, but it's not reason to do that to your kids. Just seems mean spirited. Impact trumps intent here.

I find baby showers for mothers a bit off let alone for grandmothers. If people want to bring you gifts they will why can't people just celebrate with a small lunch of something?

Can't grandma's friends just come to the baby shower?

It depends. In most cases this wouldn't be necessary but if the mother is going to work and the grandmother will be the full time babysitter then I can see the benefits.
 I picture it as a fun party the grandmothers friends would have for her. Not all people being invited and obligated to bring a gift.

If the grandmother will be full time babysitting then she will obviously need every thing a new mother would need. (i.e. Car seat, pack & play, stroller) Its a pain to have to move these big things around so her having these at her house would help everyone out.

We did this for one of my supervisors last year when her DIL had a baby. It was a work thing, and I figured that most of it was going to go to the baby anyway. It wasn't like we knew she son or DIL, so we got her stuff to help with the baby. I don't think I'd do it for someone who already has grandchildren though. Just like I think "sprinkles" are a little rude unless you're children are like 10 years apart and have no more baby stuff lol

I don't see the problem with it. Especially if grandma will be watching the baby. She needs supplies too. If she wants to throw a shower and people choose to bring presents why not?
