How do you know if you've lost your mucus plug?

Question

This may seem stupid but how do you know if and when you're losing your mucus plug? I've heard some women describe it as "bloody show" and some women say they never had any blood when losing theirs. I'm currently 35 weeks and am dilating and experiencing strong contractions (so my body is getting there) I'm just waiting for the mucus plug to go.

It regenerates, I lost chunks for 6 wks, worst weeks ever. Never had the bloody show though

I have been losing pieces of mine since I became pregnant. I am 36 week's now and still loose pieces. It regenerates. Google image's will show you

Yeah I've heard everything from women never even noticing it because it came out so little by little that it seemed like normal discharge to it coming out in one big chunk. I think, like so many other things in pregnancy, it just depends

I sneezed and lost a huge chunk but the whole thing is really quite large I thought for sure it was all gone.  It can be stringy or in my case like a giant snot wad in your panties.  My OB said later that day there was still plenty up there hah so your just never know.

I lost mine in pieces. I didn't actually see the last of it. It came when my water broke
