cradle cap smell????

My sons about 6 months... he's had cradle cap since birth I FINALLY (I know) decided to help treat it a bit dabbed it with coconut oil and scrubbed his head with a washcloth in his bath... after his bath it all got really loose and combed it out.. it's actually a lot more cleared up but it SMELLS not necessarily bad but just like a really strong head smell lol! Is this ok??? I feel like I may have scrubbed to much, should I keep applying a little coconut oil so it doesn't dry out?
