Just pumping??

Question

With our first she was delivered very sick and wasn't able to breastfeed or eat at all till she was  a week old.. I was very uninformed in breastfeeding and declined a pump. This time I would like to JUST pump. Does anyone know, is this possible?

Yes. I pumped and worked out well for me and my baby. Don't drink wine though (as mentioned by someone). That does not make you produce more milk and any alcohol you drink will be in your breast milk. That would not be good for the baby. If you want to a have a drink...just pump and dump. It usually takes your body 1 hour to get rid of 1 drink.

It is possible, but keep in mind breast milk is supplied based on supply and demand. You would need to pump as often she the baby would be feeding to produce enough for the babies needs. So that would be every 2-3 hours around the clock in the beginning. But that is also dependant upon how much you are able to pump out.

Just in my personal experience, I hated to pump. It made me angry and I felt like I wasn't human. However, it was necessary at 3 months when I returned to work or if I had to do something without my daughter. Just be mentally prepared about what you want to do and make a goal of it - remind yourself that you are doing the best possible thing. Luckily this time around, I'm a stay at home mom and the stress is off

Your milk content actually responds to the hormones in the baby's saliva. So, while pumping alone is possible (and still great!) it's better for baby if you let them latch directly.

It's possible. I did it for a year!  I used the Medela pump in style. It's a serious work horse!

Yes just pumping is possible.
My daughter was in the nicu for 28 days !! I had a breastfeeding consultant, and I had to pump every 2 - 3 hrs as a baby would feed . *yes setting alarms and waking up*
Also alot of insurances now cover breast pumps.
Mine did.
