Cereal, Rice???

How old was your baby when you started giving them cereal n rice??? I know the doctors say 6 months but mother to mother is some time better then hearing it by the book!!! : )

Yes, 6 months is recommended, some choose to start earlier but they usually aren't truly ready until around 6 months. I also recommend skipping the rice/cereal as it has no nutritional value. You can go straight to fruit and vegetable purees, avocado is a fabulous one to start with. You can also make lentils and purée it well with some water.

I skipped rice because of arsenic. They even found it in the organic brands. I gave oatmeal and multi grains between 5/6 months

I gave veggies after six months. Many rice cereals were found to be high in arsenic. I did some oatmeal, but mostly fruits and veggies to start.

4-5 months...mostly depends on when baby is ready. My doctor told me to start at 4 months and try and little bit each night, if they can eat it from a spoon, then they are ready. If they aren't able to, then they aren't and you will have to keep trying.

I gave it to my baby in his bottle around 3 months to help his acis reflux.

6/7 months. I would use it as a base to add some purred fruit to so he was getting flavour and nutrients.

Our doctor said to wait until 6 months because a baby's tummy just isn't ready to process the rice cereal. Well I tried adding some to his night bottle at 3 months old to see if he would sleep longer than 2 hours and well it did nothing except make him constipated. I did find Enfamil A.R. formula for spit up which has the rice starch included in it. So now that's his nightly bottle at 4 months old. He sleeps 4-5 hours at night. During the day he gets normal Enfamil. We have a big boy on our hands, 18lbs and 26.5 inch long at his 4 month check up but he was big at birth. He eats about every 4 hours during the day at 6oz of formula at a time. I was hoping his doc would have given the okay to start pure food sooner but nope.

He started having rice & baby food at 4months. Oatmeal at 5months. Juice and some people food at 6months. He's now almost 8 months and eats everything in sight!

I tried rice cereal at 5 months but my daughter hated it. We took a break and moved to vegetables in month 6 instead. She loved that!
