Braxton Hicks?

I'm 25 weeks along and have been having irregular contractions for the past 12 hours. I can't get relief and they seem to be getting more painful. Yet they are not coming at even amounts of time. This is my first baby and don't know what to fully expect with labor. Are these true Braxton hicks or could I be experiencing preterm labor? Anyone else experiencing or have experienced these symptoms?
