when to move on to IVF

Question

When do you choose to move on from IUI to IVF? What were the deciding factors? We are on 10months with the RE and 8 months of meditated cycles (clomid, then clomid+trigger, then femara +trigger) and I'm feeling like it's time to make a choice.

Our insurance covers IUI but no IVF- but, months of paying for the cost of medication, OPKs, pregnancy tests adds up. The cost accrued would have paid for a hefty chunk of IVF by now. Lately It feels like the odds with IUI don't balance out the lost time and cost accrued.

We are "unexplained infertility"- DHs SA numbers are fantastic and all of my tests come back come fine (I do have irregular periods and irregular bleeding with no definable cause).

As we work through the process of trying to figure out which path to take moving forward I'd appreciate insight from those of you who've gone through the process.

My clinic recommended no more than 3 IUIs before moving to ivf. I got pregnant on our 3rs but miscarried. I decided that we would move onto ivf but we needed some time to save. In that time we decided we would try 2 more IUIs (4th and 5th) and my clinic said okay even tho they didn't recommend it. I'm currently 22 weeks from our 4th IUI.

We did three IUIs. Maybe if we kept going, we'd eventually get pregnant. But like you said, costs add up. And we became impatient. It sounds like it could be time for you to move onto ivf.
