Who do you put first, your family or significant other?

Why? (By family I'm referring to people you haven't birthed so your mom, dad, siblings, uncle, aunts or even people that you consider family even if they aren't by blood)

By marrying my SO he now comes first as my immediate family. 
   
My immediate family would not be my SO unless we made steps to be permanent (like marriage, financial ties, children, etc.).

Unless I'm married or have children with my SO my family comes first. 
After marriage or kids, they are family 💕

If my parents call and ask me for help you can bet I will be in my car and on my way in a heartbeat, regardless of if DH and I had plans or not... I was an only child, my parents and I are very close. NOBODY will stand in the way of my relationship with them. And I feel that if there is something his parents need then he needs to go be with them. If we need to split up at holidays soat least one of us can be with our families  or if we need to cut visits short with each family then so be it. We won't chose one over the other and force each other to attend one family event and not the other. We have been together for 12 years now and having respect for each others immediate family has been a big part of that.

Usually my husband, because we are now each other's immediate family. Now, that's not to say that I abandoned my other family or that they don't matter at all. If my parents and SO disagreed I would take it on a case by case basis.

It depends the situation.

Overall my husband will come first. And my family knows this. I will cut off anyone who disrespects my husband.

But my family is very important to me. And my husband knows this.

So if there's something my husband doesn't agree with I may side with my family to get him to see another point of view and come around. And vice versa.

However in front of anyone my husband and I are a team. We always defend each other in front of people no matter who it is. Later when we're by ourselves we may have a discussion about something and point out how he or I was wrong.

It's a balance.

Family. They've been there for me my entire life. If things get bad they'll be the ones to pick me up.

My opinion is that once you're committed and/or have children, your SO comes first. It may be an unpopular opinion, but they become family. Especially when you have kids.

I wouldn't put a boyfriend ahead of my family, but I would put my spouse ahead of my parents, siblings, etc. This is generalized, of course, as there would be exceptions like in the case of medical emergencies.

My husband and our kids are my immediate family.
My mom is my best friend and luckily she's amazing and her and my husband get along so it's never an issue, but if it were- well, he comes first. Same with his family. 
If we weren't married and had kids it would be different but he's my home now.
