Is it bad that I started taking birth control while I wasn't on my period?

Question

I started taking birth control pills about a week before I was supposed to get my period. When I went to Planned Parenthood the nurse didn't say anything about starting it on your period so I didn't think about it, and then I read the instructions and it said to start on your period.
Is that bad? 
Will my period start before I'm taking the sugar pills? 
Should I go off and start again next cycle?

Just keep taking it. It's fine, it'll just readjust your period to the placebo week (which it would do anyway), and/or your first period might be winky. Your body will adjust. The only difference is that starting the pill when you start your period means you're protected right away. Starting it any other time in your cycle means you need backup protection for the first 7 days.
