Don't eat and then lay down. Leave a 3-4 hour gap between eating and sleeping (the more the better) to give your food time to go down and digest. Don't eat triggering foods (spicy, greasy, sour, whatever it may be). I don't know if this is proven to work for other people, but usually I'll sip on some water or a glass of milk. Some people swear by fighting acid with acid and eating a pickle or drinking some vinegar when their heartburn arises... That sounds scary to me :( haha good luck. I've tried it all but have resorted to Zantac because my heartburn is unbearable without it.

Stay away from milk, it will curdle. A bit or lemon juice in water, maybe 1-2 tablespoons and sip it frequently. It adds acid so you will stop producing so much. It sounds strange but try it, it works.

Milk, ginger and peppermint aid in digestion so they may help too. Oh and Aloe Vera does as well- you'll have to get it from a health food store.
