Do you think that most people are terrible? Can people change?

So, I just finished watching Beatriz at Dinner and I ended up crying afterwards in the women's restroom. To not do too much of a spoiler, pretty much all the characters except Beatriz are shallow and cold and causally cruel and she isn't which leads to a very awful end. And I just thought: most real life people are like that. They don't feel or think or care all that much, and those of us who do are made to feel crazy. That indifference is the actual evil in this world; the violent ones spring from and are abetted by indifference.

Is there any hope for us? Are we just a destructive paradise? I see the potential in people but so few use it. Even those who see their flaws fall into traps every day.

Anyway, anything hopeful would be much appreciated. Also do see the movie, but don't forget tissues.
