Any ladies out there run marathons and continued running through your pregnancy?

Not a marathon runner, but I have kept running. Pre-pregnancy i ran an hour a day, 7 days a week. I honestly believed it helped keep my morning sickness at bay because I never had any. I continued to run that way throughout the first trimester and second, though some days I had to change the distance as my body was changing. I'm 34 weeks now and still try to run give days a week, though I've had to flow it down. Some days the pressure of her head makes it difficult.

But, I have had little to no pregnancy symptoms and my weight gain has been minimal. You should be fine to continue running, just tell your doctor do they are aware of your routine.

I am a runner and did a half marathon at 7 weeks. I stopped running after that because I felt so sick all the time, but I regret it very much. I cannot WAIT to get back to it after baby comes (due tomorrow!). I talked to my dr about it and did a ton of research, and basically you are perfectly safe to do anything during pregnancy that you did before and leading up to pregnancy short of contact sports and things that involve sudden stops, like road biking, rock climbing (women do it, but if you fall while climbing, even on rope, the jolt can abrupt the placenta), etc. If you stop, however, it's not quite as safe to start back up again later; my dr said that since I stopped running for a month, I should only go back to walking, instead of running. If you keep up with it, though, running is perfectly safe - just take extra care not to get overheated, and maintain a pace you can talk through. If your heart rate gets up to where you can't really talk without losing your breath (usually they use 140bpm as the guideline), the baby probably isn't getting enough oxygen. The only other issue is support for your stomach as you get bigger, for which some women use a belly band (I used one at work starting at 7mos, because I work on my feet for 12 hours at a time, and it's great for my back). Of course, I would still talk to your doctor and get cleared for marathons, since every woman is different, but this is the information I found when I researched it. I'll be 12 weeks in a week when I plan to complete a half ironman (which includes a half marathon). I feel more than prepared for it and very confident that baby and me are healthy. At 20 weeks I'm currently planning to attempt a full ironman (I registered for it before we decided to try). My midwife and PCP both encourage me to go as long as I can and trust me to listen to my body. Good luck!!
