I fully support not trashing the cord blood (technically the third option). Banking cord blood is expensive and requires annual fees. The benefit- it is there if your baby or a sibling needs it. But unless you have a family history of blood cancer (leukemia or lymphoma), likely it will sit in a freezer until you can't afford the fees. If you donate it, the hospital will run a few screening tests on you (not baby!) to make sure it is safe and then it will go to the next match, possibly saving a life. Please donate!

We've decided to donate. For us it was a question of trying to help someone else. If we were in a position to need it, we would have been ever so grateful to whomever had donated it.

Delay cord clamping until it quits pulsating (2-5mins) after birth is what I have been told.
