My doctor advised me to start taking them as soon as we considered TTC. Folic acid from prenatals is essential especially in the early stages of pregnancy. It won't hurt you and many women continue taking them after pregnancy as a daily vitamin

The day I found out I was pregnant I went and bought some and started taking them. My doc was super happy about it and I'm glad I didn't wait until my first OB appointment because I didn't get in until I was 11 weeks.
