Boyfriend doesn't like compliments

So my boyfriend says I compliment him too much haha. Today I told him he looked handsome. And then I said he looked cute because he was making this funny face. He said that he doesn't take compliments well because he doesn't believe them and that when I compliment him too much it becomes less meaningful and vain. I CAN'T HELP MYSELF. MY man is the most attractive man to me and I want him to always know that I think he looks good.

I don't just compliment his appearance. I compliment other aspects of himself as well. His personality etc. but I do compliment him on his appearance / clothes sometimes. Should I stop? Is your SO other like that?

I enjoy when my boyfriend compliments me (which isn't often but they are meaningful when he does so I get what he's saying) I think we just express ourselves differently which is OK but I did kind of feel bad whenever he told me I complimented him too much and it was all vain lol. It's not like that at all!

Then before leaving he told me "I really do love you, but I'm just not good at showing you."

Is your boyfriend like this?? Should I just stop complimenting him so much?? We did talk about it but I just want to know if any of you deal with this because it's new to me haha.

It's not really NEW, we've been together for almost 3 years and yes I have noticed before that when I compliment him he doesn't believe me or thinks I'm lying or says I do it too much etc. but I mean this is the first time he's told me that it sounds all vain.
