birth control at 13?

i am 13 and there are certain times i wanna skip my period. they get really bad sometimes but i read online that you could skip your period or shorten it with birth control pills? i want to try it but are there any dangers of taking it? and how would i start a conversation about that with my mom.

The point of taking birth control pills is NOT to skip periods. No, birth control pills are not harmful, but when using them to stop your body from naturally having a period can be harmful. You can use oral birth controls such as pills, rings, etc. to skip periods, but you really shouldn't do that to your body. You can, however, take some kind of birth controls that help to regulate your periods to make them hurt less and end sooner. Also, since you are 13, I can only assume that you haven't had your period for very long; maybe a year or 2. That's still really early because an average women can have periods until she's in her 50s and your body has not naturally regulated itself during your menstrual cycles. Give yourself time to adjust. Remember, girls your age know just as much as you do about birth control & periods so just because you hear a bunch of 13-16 years olds saying they know everything there is to know about birth control & periods, they are usually wrong. 
I used the pill for about a year or so & I lost weight, felt great, my periods were regulated & lasted about 4-5 days which is normal & I love it! But then I would forget to take them everyday & I noticed they started to get messed up & I was having bad cramps again. Taking the pill is a big responsibility! So, I switched to the NuvaRing. It's a small ring that you place inside your uterus & it expressed the same hormones as a pill. You leave it inside your uterus for 3 weeks & when you're ready to have a period, you take it out. It's easier for me to use & remember, but you HAVE to take it out every 3 weeks when you would have a normal period because your body will get all messed up. You should talk to your mom or an adult you trust & go see your pediatrician or Gynecologist to learn more about birth control & your options. You need to get educated girl! You can gain weight and have headaches but its worth it. Just tell her you don't have any sexual desires but if you ever do you want to make sure you dont get pregnant
