Friends with benefits

So I'm 17 and I have been messing around/ talking to this guy I've known forever since I was 14. We have been on and off being friends with benefits because of some concerns I had. I'm just curious if you think by this time for this long he has actually gained feelings for me, he says he has but I just can't trust him.
