Can an inanimate object be "haunted?"

Im sure everyone has seen at least one paranormal movie with a haunted doll but do you believe that in real life inanimate objects can be haunted and/or possessed (ex: the ouija board)

---- real life story you don't have to read----

Okay so for those who don't know I was raised in a Christian household. One day, years ago, my mom and I went to this little corner store that sold authentic African items (clothing, masks, statues, jewelry, etc). Towards the back of the store they had all sorts of masks and statues. I found a mask that I thought was quite pretty (I was just going to hang it up on the wall for decoration) so I went to go buy it.

However, when my mom met me at the counter (sometimes we go our own ways in a store & then meet up lol) she freaked the fu*k out and asked the guy at the counter "Has this been used in any religious rituals????" He was like "Well yes most of them have been."

Safe to say at that point my mom REFUSED to let me buy it. She believes that objects can have a spirit attached to them and that spirit can then in turn haunt anybody in possession of the object.

--- If you have the time then here's a sinister P.S. -----

Literally a few streets down from us this guy went out into his backyard (for no apparent reason) and shot himself in the head. Supposably he had a wall full of masks (similar to the one I was going to buy) that he had as just "decoration"

Literally ever since his death nobody has been able to stay in the house for long. It sells pretty quickly but the owners ALWAYS end up leaving after just a few years. My mom is fully convinced that spirits attached to those masks haunted him and they now haunt anybody who chooses to live there. What do you think 👀
