if you want to have a big wedding you should be engaged for a while and save up. I would also recommend seeing how strong the relationship is before getting married. Make sure this is the person you want there every second of your life.

I think it all depends on you and your relationship. I *personally* wanted to get engaged when we could pick a date and afford to plan a wedding. We will be engaged for 2 1/2 years by the time we get married and we're together for 5 1/2 years when he proposed. I didn't want a super long engagement, and it feels like it will already be too long. But, as soon as i had the ring we could answer the "when"! Can't wait for 8-18❤️

It's up to you & your partner. There are better times than others, but it's your guys' decision. You are the ones engaged & you are the ones getting married & spending your lives together.

It's up to you really. But in my family you get married within a ear or shortly after a year depending on when/where you want to get married. I personally wouldn't want to be engaged for longer than that because I think you should only propose once you're ready to get married- you just need time to plan your wedding. My boyfriend and I are currently talking about marriage, but we're not engaged yet because financially and for a couple other reasons we wouldn't be ready to get married in a year. So we're waiting. But everyone and every relationship is different.

I was engaged 15 months...engaged Jan 2015 married May 2016...every person and their situation is different but I would say if it's 3,4,5 years and your then have a conversation. I never understood why get engaged and never set a date.
