TMD/TMJ during pregnancy??
Does anyone else here have TMD/TMJ pain and is pregnant? I have severe TMJ pain, have had it for a few years now. It is very very painful, home remedies no longer work so im pretty sure that after baby is born i will need surgery to either correct it or at least alleviate the symptoms..i know theres been some studies done and TMJ pain can be alot worse during pregnancy because of hormones but i dont know how true it is...obviously since i cannot get the surgery done while being pregnant im just curious if anyone else has it and what are some things i can do that i may not have tried?? Its getting to where i can barely eat...the pain is triggered by chewing, sometimes even by talking, & especially by yawning...my jaw pops sooo much worse now when i yawn..its even locked up a couple times mid-yawn. Ive tried the warm compress several times a day, anti inflammatories, tyenol for pain, eating only soft foods, and relaxation techniques...anything else i can try?? Help! (I will be scheduling an appt with an ear nose and throat doctor as soon as i fix my insurance because right now specialists are not included in my plan, only basic, prenatal, and ER/Hospital visits are included) im 6 weeks pregnant so pain meds other than tyenol are not an option 😭 **edit** my pain is in my right temple, right ear, cheek & jaw...all on the right side. Its a sharp stabbing pain and i have had episodes that have lasted from the time i wake up till the time I go to bed with only an hour break in between!
