How will this work?

My ex hasn't been in my daughter's life for almost 3 years. He lives across the country with his girlfriend and their new daughter. I want to get full custody, but I don't know how this will work. Will him being far away increase my chances of gaining custody? If I lose, will I have to send my daughter across the country? :( has anyone gone through something similar?

I have a friend whose baby daddy was absent for the first 6 years of her son's life. Suddenly started feeling guilty when he got engaged and sued for joint custody. She now has to send him back and forth across the country. The thing that hurt her was that his name was on the birth certificate. I don't think that would make or break any case but what I do think is that if you are worried about this I would start looking into your options sooner rather than later. My sister's son has also been absent all of his life but we tried to take him on vacation and weren't able to get his passport because of the dad factor (his name is also on the birth certificate). If you're lucky he isn't interested in a relationship and you can get him to sign away his rights. Good luck.
