Do you have self-harm scars? If so, are you ashamed/embarrassed of them?

I have scars on my leg from self harming. I used to never wear shorts or dresses or anything that would show my legs. There aren't a lot of scars and they're older so they've faded. But you can still see them. especially when I tan. 
I was in counselling and she really helped me to just love myself and accept myself and my scars. Because they tell a story about part of my life and how I'm still here and scars don't define me. 
People will love you if it's true love. 
My SO now, thinks they are beautiful and that I'm braves and strong to still be here today.

I have thousands on my hips that discolor my skin. They are very noticeable and I used to be scared to wear a bathing suit. I'm not worried about people seeing them anymore, I just don't want them to ask as it's hard to talk about. They are apart of me and they are documentation of what I have gone through. I wouldn't ever remove them if I could.

I do. I don't think twice about them. I see them without noticing them which is all I could ever ask for. I'm sure someday my daughter will ask me about them and that's a conversation I'll struggle with.

I have many, many scars on my upper arm and hip/thigh area from years of using the same spot over and over. They're extremely noticeable and I often catch people looking when they're trying to have a conversation. If it's very obvious I usually politely ask them not to stare. They don't bother me as much as they used to, but I have been told they're going to be impossible to tattoo over, which was kind of disappointing.

I have scars on my arms that have been there for years. I had stitches and they're very noticeable... for years I wore sweaters in 90 degree heat just to cover them up. Now I don't notice them, but if I'm sitting by someone new I still tend to try to hide them.

Almost my entire left arm is covered. I was embarrassed for the longest time. The only time I'm bothered now is when children ask what happened. I usually tell them I was in a shark attack or that I fought with a bear or something.

Where's the yes I have them but I'm not embarrassed? I had a very rough childhood, in which I thought death was a better option but eventually I saw the light at the end of the tunnel and knew I was worth more! Now that I'm older I'm not ashamed. They tell part of my story and honestly remind me of my strength! I wouldn't be who I am without that experience. 💜
