Shoplifting advice!

So I got caught shoplifting at kohls in California. I'm 19 and yes I know it's stupid and it's never happening again. Well anyways they told me to come in the room because they know I stole. Well assumed because my purse looked bigger when I came out of the dressing room. I admitted to it right away and he kept telling me don't worry it's just like a traffic ticket. I signed the paperwork saying I'm never allowed back, and so on. And he said I could possibly make payment plans with the city because I told him I don't have much money. Well today I got civil demand saying I need to pay 350 to kohls directly. I'm not sure if I have to pay this AND pay a fine to my city? Or what? They said if I don't pay this they will take me to court. What should I do? I want to pay both, but I would rather pay the ticket from the court first because they're the ones who can't take me to jail or put a warrant out for my arrest for not paying. In so confused help please
