Castor oil ?

I'm 39 weeks and just took a table spoon of castor oil to help induce labor ... when is it supposed to start working ? It's been about a hour and I still feel the same lol .... does it even work ?

The risk isn't castor oil itself. It does not cross the placenta. 
Any induction toward the end of pregnancy has the same risk. Baby gets stressed and poops before birth, and that causes the issue.
This is also a risk when going past 40 weeks with a spontaneous labor. 
If "natural" induction methods don't work it simply means baby isn't ready. Nothing natural will start labor if baby isn't ready.
Make sure to stay hydrated if you do the castor oil.

I took it with my first before bed. Had a few bathroom trips overnight, and was having contractions by 6am. Dilated and water broke on its own, made it to 8cm and ended up with a c section because baby was too high. I now know it was due to a bicornuate uterus. Good luck!

Gah. Please don't ignore the risks.......
I did it, and nearly killed my son by being selfish... he pooped in the womb, had I not been lucky and my water broke when it did, he probably would have died.

I'm going to take some Saturday can you let me know how you get on please? I've read on the internet to take a table spoon with oj. My friend did it 2months ago it took about 6hrs till she had contractions. Don't take it more than 6hrs apart tho you don't want the poops lol

I took it with my pregnancy before this one... I took like a teaspoon at 39 weeks that night around 11 and woke up next morning with contractions and had him the same day.... was thinking about it this pregnancy but I'm only 38 weeks and 4 days now but everyone is different and everyone have their own opinion on castor oil... me personally as long as you don't take a lot or more that 2 teaspoon I think your baby will be ok

Took it with my first at 40+5. It works best if mixed with a milk protein (so make a milkshake and mix it in and chug it so it doesn't separate). Took it mid afternoon, contractions started hard at 11 pm, arrived at 1 am at the hospital at an 8 and delivered a little before 4 am. It only works if your body is ready. I was dilated to a 5 for 3 weeks prior to this. It also does not cross the placenta barrier so it won't make your baby poop. The meconium often happens when babies are post dates or stressed in utero (which gi upset could stress the baby). Just ask your doc first!
