Shedding hair fix?

Question

So I tend to have this problem when I let my hair grow long (it is currently half way down my back) that I start shedding. I've tried Garnier for longer hair, but it left my hair really greasy.
At the suggestion of a coworker I got Nexxus moisturizing shampoo and conditioner. It kind of helps with the shedding but has given me dandruff.
Any suggestions for complex hair?

I'm not sure what you're willing to spend on hair products but the brands I love are: Aveda, Bumble and Bumble, and Biolage. I also have thick long hair and it's delicate after all the treatments I've done to it. I gently brush my hair starting at the ends and work my way up, wash my hair, put in leave in conditioner, and let it air dry before I brush it after the shower. Never brush your hair wet. I also use these weird cord ponytails from Sephora that help prevent breakage, they do lose elasticity more quickly than a normal ponytail but my hair has been happier.
