First Month Of Birth Control

I've just started taking the combination pill and i've just started my seven day break from it around 3 days ago. I've not been feeling any of the good effects of the pill yet? I'm still having a really painful and heavy period, my acne is getting worse and i feel generally more emotional and stressed the whole time i've been taking them. Is this normal for the first month and will it improve or should I change pill?
