Do you give your child a fever reduced before they get a shot?

A loved one and I were discussing vaccines and I said that I didn't think it was safe to give a child medicine before the vaccine because in the event of them become ill and reacting, that could alter things. They also may not react at all and wouldn't need the medication to begin with. My loved one said that it's totally fine. 
What are your thoughts ? Is this really that common? I'm just curious

I've heard you're not supposed to because it can effect the efficacy of the vaccine. So far I've only had to give him Tylenol after one set of shots. He had a mild fever for one day after the flu shot and was fine.

Before no. But after depending on how old your child is your doctor will give you info saying that if they do spike a fever after the shots then you can give them a small dosage. 
My kids didn't get a fever after so I never did. But I didn't know people did it before too. That's weird

Different medications will react with or will not work the way they are supposed to if the drugs are taken too close together or taken together at all. This goes for certain vaccines as well. Always always always talk to your doctor about giving medications before vaccines! They can effect their efficacy- so basically your kid might not end up protected by the vaccine or if things go really wrong it could cause a very bad reaction. Always check with a doctor first. I'd never give an animal (Im a vet- and just so people know human and animal vaccines are basically the same and for certain diseases they actually are identical and all work the same way regardless just require different dosages) a fever reducing medication prior to vaccinating them mostly because a slight raise in temperature is necessary to get the correct immune response that you need for the vaccine to be effective. Afterwards sure if their temperature got high enough and enough time had elapsed. But again, always consult a doctor before giving different media within a 24hr period.

I agree with you. I don't do that. My daughter didn't actually have a fever after her shots. And if she did, I'd try other methods of fever reduction first like a cool cloth and a bath.
