3 hour glucose test at 36+ weeks???

Beth

So Tuesday I had an NST and growth scan at maternal fetal medicine. I go through a different practice for my ob.. so glad the NST was first. Growth scan left me irritated and concerned. Don't get me wrong, baby is doing great! It's doing practice breathing and growing wonderfully. But the growth is my concern. After the scan, a nurse came in to talk to me about baby's growth. Baby is in the 96th percentile and weighs over 7 lbs (I think 7 lb 8 oz) at 36 weeks. The nurse comes in to tell me their doctor that reviewed the scan is concerned about the growth and wants me to have a 3 hour glucose test. Also my fluid was a tiny bit high (only 0.8 above where it should be). Between the fluid and the baby's weight, they think I have gestational diabetes. I know my weight also plays a part in them thinking this as I am overweight. However, I've never had GD with my other kids (both were small babies) and both my 1 hour gtt came back fine (16 weeks it was 61 and 28 weeks it was 102 even though I only fasted 6-7 hours). I guess I'm just irritated because I'm 36 weeks and when baby was measuring in the 85th percentile at 32 weeks is when they should have ordered the 3 hour gtt. Even the nurse questioned why they didn't do it then. My thing is, what's the point now? I know, I'm an LPN and I have been drilled about diabetes my whole schooling and nursing career but I also know my body and I've had absolutely no signs of high blood sugars that I can pick out during this pregnancy. I have an appointment with my regular ob today and I'm going to discuss this with him. I'm really hoping he will at least talk to me and give me some kind of reassurance. I'm just so over this whole pregnancy and ready for baby to be here! Plus it didn't help that about an hour or so prior to my appointment, I found out my car is going to cost $900 to fix (overheated Monday on my way home from work). Thankfully we have the money, but that was 2/3 of the rent money we had saved for when I'm off with baby since I won't get paid leave. This week sucks!

I would love to hear if anyone else had this happen? Anyone have a 3 hour gtt at 36 or more weeks? Do I really need it at this point since I literally only have 2.5 weeks left (being induced at 39 weeks)? Just seems unnecessary this late in the game
