How would you describe your parents' parenting style?

My dad took himself out of my life when I was thirteen, by allowing his third wife to verbally and mentally abuse me every chance she got, without him saying a word, and by always favouring the kids of whoever he's with at the time over his only biological kid. My mother's a former...probably current...drug addict who always favoured my little sister, because they both love to party, and I haven't talked to either of them in over a year.

It was basically a lot of screaming and hitting until the day I left

Somewhere right in the center. I expect my children to do things to the best of their ability. So I have expectations but I don't set them so high the goals are unattainable.

I am there for my children but not at the cost of forgetting who I am outside of the title 'mother.' And I also like to know my kids will behave themselves but I don't like to demand anything of them. They behave because they don't want me to be disappointed in them.

It works for us so far.
