When should I start ovulation tests?

My cycle is 27 days. How many days from my period should I start my first ovulation test?

The first few months I tested twice a day until I got a surge which I then charted and once I got a few down and noted that I was ovulating like clockwork on the 21st day of my 35 day cycle I only tested during the fertile week as predicted by glow. Hope this helps.

Additionally it helps to test in the afternoon. I noticed I get a surge at about 1-2 o clock.
