Adding cereal.?

Question

Calling out to all the moms who added cereal... did it help are hurt? Everyone is different.. I don't wanna see are hear any shaming. Just asking a serious question cause I'm considering trying it my baby never seems to be full.

If your baby doesn't seem full just give them more breast milk or formula, cereal should never be put into bottles...

I've heard people say their doctor recommended it to help fill their babies, but from what I've seen with research & our doctor has said years no proof that out actually works to keep them full & it's considered a choking hazard on a bottle. It's only sometimes recommended if your baby has reflux. I know I feed my son oatmeal cereal for good solid breakfast & he's still hungry 2 hours later.

Talk to your baby's doctor. In my opinion, it should only be done if there is a medical necessity. My daughter was projectile vomiting and I was told to add it to weigh down her formula. We also need to use a special nipple and it can be a choking hazard. It didn't make her sleep longer or anything. In my opinion, risks aren't worth taking if baby doesn't need to take the risk. My daughter could have choked on her own vomit or become malnourished, which is why her doctor recommended it. The benefits outweighed the risks.

My niece was recommened the cereal in her milk bc she always threw up. It helped keep it down and keep her full

If you're talking about adding it to a bottle I strongly suggest you don't, as it's a major choking hazard....
if you want to add it to food, that's totally a personal choice. It is calorically high, but doesn't offer anything nutritious (protein, fiber, etc), therefore it probably will give the feeling of fullness, but won't last long enough to keep your baby full. It's like when we eat our favorite Junk dinner, feel super full, then half an hour later are hungry again. It's not going to kill you to do it, it's just also not going to do anything but satisfy tastebuds. Not sure if that comparison makes sense, but that's how I look at it, and why I choose not to use cereal. I would up the milk intake, and (if of proper age), add some more veggies that will fill your baby! Good luck with whatever you choose!
