So I'd really like to throw myself or ask a family member to throw me a book party for my second baby. I have all the essentials, I already have diapers stockpiled, I just want books for my boy due in October. Opinions?

We are expecting our first, so I can't say if I'll definitely do this or not... but for our second I like the idea of having a 'Sip and See' where it's a small co-ed get together for everyone to meet baby and bring a small gift. On the invite you could put something like 'Your gift is your presence, but books for the new baby are welcome'. That way you won't end up with things you don't need and can still receive the books.

I don't sell them so this is not me trying to solicit! Lol However, way before I got pregnant a friend of mine had an Usbourne book party and her daughters are obsessed with these books! I didn't have kids but bought my nephew two black and white fold out books from them that are perfect for tummy time. He still loves them 6 months later and will still lay there and touch the pages. It is done like a pampered chef or Lularoe party but it's all children's books. So, people would buy books and you'd get money off of books or free for having the party. This is just a suggestion if you don't want to ask for a shower as people have parties like this all the time and I don't think anyone would think badly of you for it.

I wouldn't necessarily directly ask, but mention to someone that you saw it as an idea and got really excited about it because thats the only thing you feel you're missing for baby.
Maybe they'll catch the hint, maybe they won't, but I wouldn't throw a party where the purpose is gifts for yourself. It's pretty universally considered tacky.
