naming baby maddix how should we spell it?

naming him maddix. pronounced mad-icks.  how should we spell it? the most common way seems to be Maddox but it looks to be pronounced mad ox?

I think I'm confused on how you want it pronounced. When I think "Maddox" I hear it without the "ox" sound. Maddix would make me pronounce it "mad" "dicks".

I am a preschool teacher and have a Maddox in my class. Everyone calls him Maddy for short. However, half of the staff call him madd-ox the other half pronounce it madd-ex
