I need serious advice asap

So my boyfriends dog passed away yesterday and he's being very distant with me and won't really talk to me and it's making me upset but I can't really do anything about it and I feel like it's going to end our relationship I just don't know what to do I've never been in this situation should I just give him time and stop messaging him and let him come to me? Orrrr
