Is "Teen Mom" and "16 and Pregnant" educational?

Question

Do you think the shows "Teen Mom" and "16 and Pregnant" are educational shows for youth or just people in general?
I personally think it removes the stigma, and shows that it's not a "taboo" subject. I think it shows a lot of teens the downsides to sex and not being protected.
Personally (anecdotal evidence) it made me reconsider sex, and it made me take precautions with sex.
So what do you think? Do you think it's educational? Why or why not?

I'm actually agreeing with a lot of you ladies. I feel like 16 and pregnant was more education than teen mom is. And that teen mom in some ways may not be the accurate representation 😂

I think 16 & pregnant was. Teen mom is more of a guilty pleasure (well for me anyway). Their lives aren't really, for the most part, realistic portrayals of what things would be like. I mean they deserve to be paid for filming and can do whatever they want with that money, but that doesn't mean the show is educational.

I think it's not realistic. I mean the teen mom OG's are rolling around in brand new cars and living in huge houses and honestly that's RARELY the case. I'm a teen mom and when I've watched it its the furthest thing from the truth and reality.

when it first came out , it was definitely educational . it showed that caring for children is HARD , and that your boyfriend might not be your boyfriend forever so you should protect yourself . now it's just reality tv and no one is looking for reality tv to actually be real . but in the beginning , it def was educational .

No, now it just glorifies pregnancy. It used to be an educational show. I watched it as a teenager and was genuinely scared of having a baby because of how hard it looked. Now all they do is drive around in new cars, live in nice houses and have family drama. It's the furthest thing away from education.

I mean, the teen pregnancy rate in the US is at an all time low, so they must be doing something right. Even teen mom, sure they have some money from the show but most of them aren't married to the father of the child they had as teens, and they aren't exactly winning awards for co-parenting. Teen mom OG talks a lot about mental illness which is awesome in helping to end the stigma. Over all I think they're good shows to have on.

In my opinion no. They are just guilty pleasure "reality" tv shows. 16 & pregnant had more information than teen mom does. But not enough to mean anything. If anything it was glorifying teen pregnancy.

When it first came out, 16 & Pregnant was. But Teen mom is just a guilty pleasure and I hate it but I love it too. Plus their not teens anymore their all like 25 so doesn't really make sense.
