Isofix car seats mandatory?

I looked at car seats today and the salesperson said isofix will be mandatory in the US by next year. I haven't even heard of it before today. Now I'm stressed out and confused about what I really need to find in a car seat. Plus, the only car seat he showed me that has is is a Nava and I don't have that kind of money budgeted for the seat.

That's ridiculous! They have to give a timeline before they change the law on car seats....4 years ago they were saying they would require rear facing car seats until 24 months, and that isn't even a law as to date. The sales person was probably just trying to make a profit off of you....

We're using an isofix base just because it is really safe and it's easy to click the seat in and out of the car. We bought our car seat (well whole travel set, pram and buggy too) second hand, it was hardly ever used and the home they came from was clean and the covers come off to wash them so they'll be good as new. Buying the travel set second hand saved hubby and I nearly €300, which is a saving we can use to buy other stuff we need for our baby

First of all it has been required in new model cars in 2002, second of all it is NOT mandatory for all carseats to have then mr sales man is a liar.

Some cars don't have he isofix connectors so I don't believe that. I'm in the UK and when in John Lewis (a large department store) the man told me that as of 2008 all cars had to have the connectors by law but didn't say everyone needed to use them. The car seats are perfectly safe with the seat belts as they have been for years, the isofix is just a lot easier! Xxx
