When to put the car seat in.

Okay Mommies out there, I'm struggling on when to put the car seat in. I don't want to wait till the last minute but also don't want it to be too early. This is our first so guidance would be amazing! We are 27weeks 💕

I'll install the base around 36 weeks but I won't put the car seat in the car until I'm going into labor or at all. (Someone can always bring it to me) don't want to chance getting into an accident and having to get a new one.

I had my first child early at 28 weeks. I am currently 25 weeks. This is our second... the hospital bag and the car seat base will be installed in my car this weekend and the carseat will sit in the living room until closer to 35 weeks....however if I go into labor early while I'm at work then DH will grab the carseat on his way to the hospital as coming home to get it first would add at least 30 minutes to my trip to the hospital... our house is in between his work and the hospital so it will work out... Or that's the plan at least! Lol

I installed the base at 35 weeks that way somebody could just bring the car seat itself if I were to go into labor but I put the actual seat in at 37 weeks

I had my first at 34 weeks. He didnt come home right away so i dont plan on installing our carseat until 36 weeks? My hospital bag on the other hand is getting packed within the next week and is coming with me to every appointment lol

This is a struggle for me as well. I'm working up until I have the baby and planned to keep my diaper bag, hospital bag, and carseat in the car when I got back to work at 36 weeks (I'm a teacher). Well, at 24 weeks I was in a very bad car accident. Now I'm worried about putting the seat in my car and we live 45 minutes from the hospital and my husband will have to drive almost 25 minutes on top of that to go back for it. I know I won't need the seat the day of delivery but I don't know if family will be at the hospital or not... I do know that one of the first things my insurance company asks when we reported the accident was if there was a carseat in the vehicle. I'm pretty certain, at least with our insurance, they would have paid to replace it. Chances are I'll just put it in my car at 36 weeks anyway...

You could always install the base and have the car seat in the truck for when it's time to go. I installed mine like 3-4 weeks before cuz I was so excited🤗 both about then new baby and my new ford flex😍

My husband does it when he picks up me and the baby from the hospital we did it like that with all of my babies

You can install the base whenever, just leave the seat at home until you're in labor. 
Even in the small chance you are in an accident and need to replace a base, the seat can be safely installed without a base anyways. 
Just make sure you read your manual thoroughly before install to make sure it's done correctly for either a base or baseless install!

I installed the base a week ago and cleaned and moved my son's car seat to see if it would fit better rear facing behind the passenger or driver's side (he's 22 months). Since then I've had to unclip the base twice for other passengers and will probably leave it out for a few more weeks. The infant seat is a chicco Keyfit and installs very easily using latch.
