Midwife to doctor appointment?

I have been assigned a midwife my entire pregnancy( 27 weeks 3 days baby girl). Now kaiser tells me my next appointment will be with a real doctor. But after will continue to remain with midwife I think. Has this happened to anyone? Do you know what the doctor will do at this appointment that the midwife has not?

Sometimes I see my OB, others I see a NP. My OB is delivering but for routine checks, it doesn't really matter who is doing the measuring.

Yeah practice I go to has midwives and OBs. We just randomly get thrown around unless we request otherwise, so that we can meet everyone. Whoever is on call when I go into labor will be there, and not who I pick. Maybe they are just introducing you to the other people working there?

My practice is midwives, nurse practitioners and docs. I didn't start having appointments with the docs until 24 weeks. I think it's to get familiar with all the faces you will see and who might deliver you. 
My doc didn't do anything different than the midwife.
