Would you consider an addiction a disease?

Doing drubs is not a disease. But addiction IS a disease. Addiction refers to the changes that take place in your brain when you abuse a substance. It is not the same thing as drug abuse/use  When you use drugs for a long period of time - it actually changes the wiring and neurotransmitter levels in your brain. And certain drugs (like heroin) create such extreme changes - that you can actually die from quitting cold turkey. Your body can become so used to the substance that it literally NEEDS it to function. 
Yes. Using drugs is a choice and your choices can result in a disease. But addiction is not a choice. You cannot choose to have the drugs fuck up your brain. It either happens or it doesn't. (Not everyone who uses or abuses drugs will get addicted. Genetics play an important role in who becomes addicted)  
Think of it another way: cancer is a disease. You would never tell someone with cancer "well you chose to smoke. You chose to go out in the sun. You can't call your cancer a disease because you CHOSE it." It's exactly the same for addiction.

Well considering it's been scientifically proven that addiction alters your brain just like any other mental illness, yes it is a disease. That's not an opinion, it's a fact. People can change to recover from the addiction, but their disease never goes away and they will always struggle with their addiction and cravings.

It's not really an opinion thing?? Addiction is a disease. Smh @ anyone who thinks it's not. Mental illnesses are just as valid as physical ones

It absolutely is and anyone that says otherwise is obviously not an addict or has never experienced addiction. "You always have a choice." Like really, do you not understand how addiction works...? That's what differentiates someone who uses occasionally or recreationally vs someone who is addicted.
