Vbac or c section 12 months after giving birth

Rachelle

January of this year I gave birth to my first child. I laboured for 24 hours at home with the help of my husband and midwife at 41 weeks pregnant. After 24 hours of contractions every 1-2 minutes my midwife decided it was time to go to the hospital because I wasn't progressing properly. At that point I was only 2 cm dilated.

By the time we got to the hospital I was 3 cm dilated and they decided to break my water to speed up the process and see if his head would engage, because it still wasn't at that point.

They also started pitocin to speed up labor and that's when the breaks between contractions totally disappeared and the pain became unbearable.

I hadn't used any pain medication up until that point but ended up asking for an epidural. The epidural ended up not working, and they couldn't figure out why. On top of the 24 hours I did at home, I laboured for another 12 hours in the hospital and only dilated to 4-5 cm. My baby went in distress at that point and so they decided it was time for a c section.

My son was a normal size baby, his position seemed normal, and they don't know why I failed to progress. I'm pregnant with my second child now and my ob isn't concerned about me being pregnant again and she would even let me try for a Vbac. I have to be honest and say that the thought of trying this again really frightens me. I'd much rather have another c section if its up to me, but the downside of that is that I won't be able to carry my first born and that really makes me feel guilty. This is the only reason I would consider a Vbac really...

Do any of you have experience with trying for a Vbac after a first labor that looked a lot like mine? I would love to get some input.
