Latching at 4 weeks old 💕
My son was born tongue-tied on 6/22, and although they corrected it in hospital, he still could not latch. I bottle fed in the hospital while I pumped my colostrum/milk, and then continued bottle feeding at home with the Medela Calma nipple (which I love and swear by!!!) because he just would not stay latched (I think he got used to the easiness of the bottle and didn't want to work for his milk). Last week, while I was giving him his bath, which he generally hates, I figured out that he probably hates it because he doesn't like to be on his back. I was right, because once I got in with him and laid him on my chest, he fell right asleep while I washed his hair 😂 so during the next bath, I tried to breastfeed him, and he latched for 5 whole minutes, which was a HUGE deal for him. His longest latch time before that bath was like, 30 seconds. So now I'm weaning him off the bottle, giving him 2oz of formula at a time instead of 4, until I'm sure that I'm making enough milk for him (pumping has been wonky, some days I can do 3oz per session, some days it's less than 0.5oz 🙄😒)! I was almost positive that my window for breastfeeding had closed, and I was so upset about it, but he did it! I wanted to share in case anybody else is in a similar situation and feeling discouraged. I posted to Facebook and was shocked by how many of my friends experienced similar setbacks. Breastfeeding is one of those things that seems easy... Until you have to do it. Moms rule the world 💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽
