starting to worry it'll never happen???

so a bit of back info - back in high school i got on the depo shot to stop my periods because they were awful. was on the shot probably about 5 to 6 years. so fast forward to now I've been off the shot for a year and am still having no periods and it's been a 6 month ongoing process of trying and failing to conceive. well i recently heard from a family member that she had read something about how prolonged use of the depo shot could cause infertility so now I'm worried it'll never happen. i have a dr appointment scheduled to get some more info and have her check to see if i am fertile or not but in the meantime has anyone else heard about this happening?
