Anyone else following the release of the premature baby born in Mexico? Story is couple was babymooning in Mexico while mom was 28 wks pregnant. Doctor gave the ok. Woman ended up going into labor and needing an emergency c section. Hospital refused to release the infant until bills were paid.

My issue is there is always a risk of premature birth. I traveled myself at 27/28 wks during a normal pregnancy BUT I confirmed with my insurance what hospitals took my insurance so if god forbid anything happened i was covered. This couple had Medicaid and did not purchase travel medical insurance.

Everyone is up in arms about the hospital and them wanting payment and I find it's ridiculous. They provided a service and saved the life of your infant, yes you should have to pay the bills even though you didn't plan for it.
