Are dreadlocks cultural appropriation?
My friend was talking about how dreads and other "black" hairstyles on other races is cultural appropriation. Its not just that though it's clothing too. She said that the only way its ok is if they research the culture. HOWEVER, how do you KNOW someone has? Celebrities do it and they're CELEBRATED for being cultured. So how far do you go? Is it wrong to wear something because you like it? Not something religious, but something thats just cultural, like a kimono or dreads. And you cant just ACCUSE someone of it by those standards, because what if they DID research and respect, even after they could just lie?
And would it be more or less racist for saying something cultural should be RESERVED for one race/culture?
Im not trying to be disrespectful, I'm honestly genuinely interested and VERY open minded!
