Counting kicks?

Question

I have read a lot about tracking baby's kicks. My concern is that I went for my routine checkup at 29w3d and my doctor didn't mention anything about counting kicks :( I will call and let him know but does anyone know (meanwhile) how am I supposed to track them? Thanks in advance!

You're meant to lay or sit down in a comfortable position around the same time each day (best to do when you know your baby is usually active) and count kicks. As long as you record 10 within an hour, you're good to go!

There's an app for that. No really. It's great and gives me peace of mind. There are also contraction tracking apps for closer to October. I had to use one with my first cause my husband was not helpful. 🙄 "Owwww!" "...Was that a contraction?" "WHAT DO YOU THINK IT WAS?!?"

I told my Dr I started counting kicks and she asked me why, haha.  She said as long as I feel him move throughout the day then there is no need to worry too much about it.  I still use a counting app a couple times a day, though :)

I think some doctors ask if you've had prior issues mine hasn't asked me to count. It baby is super active

My doctor just brought it up at 26 weeks. 10 kicks in 2 hours. She suggested drinking water and laying down if you don't think you've noticed all day. And if that doesn't work try juice. If neither of those work I have to call triage.

I do. My doctor gave me a chart that starts at 28 weeks. You note the time it takes you to count 10 kicks every day. I lay on my side after breakfast and drink something cold like ice tea and count the kicks. It usually only takes me 10-20 minutes to get 10 kicks. My instructions said that any movement should be considered a kick. So if you feel the baby at anytime, that's a kick. The purpose is to be aware if the kicks slow down. So, if you start to have a hard time getting 10 kicks within an hour or two, you might want to let your doctor know. And, if you have tried your hardest (drank something cold and sweet, did a little exercise to wake the baby up) and can't get  a kick count within 2 hours, you might want to call labor and delivery at your hospital.

My doctor brought it up once when I was about 23 weeks but I hadn't really felt the babies moving much still at that point just because of how they are positioned. She hasn't brought it up since, they just ask me if I feel them moving now.

I had my 27 week appointment last week and my dr didnt mention it either. Its more for your benefit so you know that your baby is consistently active. Download a kick counter app, choose a time in the day where you know your baby is the most active, lay down and count babys kicks. Theyre supposed to have 10 in 2hours. Anything less than that and you should call your dr so they can determine if you need to be seen.

My doctor hasn't had me count kicks either yet, he just asks me if the baby is moving lol I'll be 28 weeks tomorrow!
